What: The Pre- and Post-Doctoral scholars will be involved in the study of nutrient signaling pathways and their involvement in disease pathogenesis. We employ state of the art cell biology, proteomic, metabolomic and gene editing approaches to understand: i) how the cell senses and signals fluctuations in nutrient availability to induce specific metabolic responses; ii) how de-regulation of these processes is involved in the pathogenesis of inherited metabolic diseases and cancer.


Salary: The salary will be discussed privately with the applicant, based on their previous experience.



Post-doctoral candidates should have a PhD in biology or a related discipline and preferably background in the field of metabolism, signaling, or cellular and molecular biology. Excellent technical skills and the ability to think independently and as part of a research team are highly desired. Although not a requirement, less than a year of postdoctoral experience and records that show applicants ability to be funded will be positively considered.


Pre-doctoral candidates should have a Master’s degree in Biology or a related discipline and preferably background in the field of metabolism, signaling, or cellular and molecular biology.

What: The Cortese group at TIGEM is recruiting a post-doctoral fellow to work on the mechanisms of SARS-CoV-2 induced pathogenesis.

Positive-strand RNA viruses replicates their genome in specialized compartments called “replication organelles”. To forms these replication organelles, viruses extensively remodel the cellular landscape, in a process that involves both viral proteins and host factors.

The research activities focus on defining the molecular mechanisms governing cellular remodeling and viral replication organelle biogenesis during SARS-CoV-2 infection. Our aim will be to identify essential host factors responsible for those alterations and dissect the molecular mechanisms that lead to SARS-CoV-2 induced cellular cytopathogenesis. We will use advanced imaging techniques, such as electron tomography and correlative light and electron microscopy, to define the alterations induced by viral infection on the cellular morphology. Imaging studies will be complemented with genetic manipulations (CRISPR-Cas9 mediated knock-out/in, siRNA, ecc.) and “–omics” approaches (lipidomic and proteomic) to dissect the role of selected host factors during the SARS-CoV-2 infectious cycle.

Your role:

  • Design and optimize a SARS-CoV-2 molecular clone.
  • Design and perform screening approaches in close collaboration with the High-Throughput-Screening core facility
  • Perform genetic perturbation using CRISPR-Cas9 to define the role of host factors during SARS-CoV-2 infection
  • Collaborate with the Advanced Imaging Facility to characterize the molecular and structural composition of SARS-CoV-2 replication organelles
  • Perform experiments in high-containment research laboratory (BSL-3)
  • Contribute to the operation and maintenance of lab infrastructure and equipment.
  • Mentor undergraduate students


Education and experience:

  • Ph.D. in Biology or equivalent qualification.
  • Previous experience in cellular and molecular biology.
  • Knowledge and interested in imaging techniques (either light or electron microscopy).
  • Previous experience in virology is desirable, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Team player with good communication skills

15/07/2020 Two Positions Available in prof. Franco's Lab

Two positions for a postdoctoral fellow and a PhD student are available at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM) in Pozzuoli, Naples in Prof. Brunella Franco’s laboratory. The two positions will be employed in the following projects: a) study of mitochondrial mediated neurodegeneration in rare mithocondrial disorders and more common conditions and b) dissecting the multiple diverse function of the OFD1 gene: one transcript for many disorders. 

The positions are offered to highly motivated young scientists with expertise in cell and molecular biology. Previous laboratory experience with animal models and mouse phenotyping is desirable, but not strictly required. The salary will be based on the experience and skills of the candidate.

14/05/2020 | Translational Unit (TTU) Open Position available

TIGEM Translational Unit (TTU) is mainly dedicated to in vivo pre-clinical studies supporting the development of novel treatments for genetic and metabolic disorders.  

A research technician position is now available under the supervision of Dr Nunzia Pastore

Specific duties of the research technician will be to manage mouse colonies (breeding and genotyping) and perform in vitro and in vivo experiments. The individual for this job has to be highly organized, methodical and reliable. The salary will be negotiated based on applicant experience.

Postdoctoral Position in inherited neurodegenerative disorders at TIGEM -Telethon institute of Genetics and Medicine of Pozzuoli 



A Postdoctoral position in the research group of Dr. Nicolina Cristina Sorrentino at TIGEM is available -Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine of Pozzuoli. The candidate will work on an exciting project focused on the development of new gene and drug therapy protocols for the treatment of systemic and neurodegenerative pathology in a mouse model of a very severe Lysosomal Storage Disorder, Mucopolysaccharidoses type IIIA (MPS-IIIA). 


We are seeking highly motivated Postdocs with demonstrated potential for creativity, with the ability to conduct their independent, self-directed, cutting-edge research in collaborative environment. In addition to leading his/her own project, the applicant will have the opportunity to contribute to other projects in the lab and to develop and participate in external collaborations. 



Basic Qualifications


Biological/Biotechnology degree 

PhD in a related-relevant field


Good Track record in Molecular Biology and Gene Therapy fields and experience in handling and working with mouse models.


Good English oral and written skills are a must.


Good communication skills and the capability to work in team.


Additional Qualifications

The candidate should have hands-on experiencein molecular, biochemical and immunohistochemical techniques.


The candidate should have good knowledge and experience in immunofluorescence microscopy and also cells cultures.
