Extended Cookie Policy

A cookie is a textual element (file) that is placed on the hard drive of a computer only after authorization (as set on the browser in use). Cookies have the function of streamlining web traffic analysis or signalling when a specific site is visited and allow web applications to send information to individual Users. No personal data of Users is acquired by the site in this regard. The use of so-called session or technical cookies is strictly limited to the transmission of session identifiers (consisting of random numbers generated by the server) necessary to allow the safe and efficient exploration of the site. The so-called session cookies used on the site avoid the use of other computer techniques that could potentially compromise the confidentiality of users' browsing and do not allow the acquisition of personal identification data of users.

Third-party cookies are present on the main site and on the third-level sites, i.e., not developed for the Site but coming from external applications, specifically from YouTube or Google Maps; they are used only for video and/or map embedding operations directly on the Site, as well as a future implementation of tools such as Google Analytics, which envisages the presence of tracking cookies (location, type of browser used, origin) owned by Google, whose information can be found at the following links:

As far as third-level sites are concerned, there are cookies from Google Analytics or external organisations (such as ucsc.edu), which are always used to embed an app called Genome Browser, which allows us to navigate through the genome in a graphic manner.

Instructions for deleting or disabling cookies from your browser

Most browsers accept cookies automatically but allow the user to disable them. On many browsers, the help menu will provide the user with information on how to prevent their browser from accepting new cookies, how to set the browser to notify them when they receive a new cookie, and how to disable cookies all together.

If desired, the user can also disable or delete the cookies he/she has accepted at first.

Instructions for changing the cookie settings of the most popular Internet browsers:

We recommend that you leave cookies "turned on" so that we can offer you a better experience on the Website. If you set your browser to block all cookies (including strictly necessary cookies), you may not be able to access certain parts of the Website.

The processing that occurs through third party cookies and google analytics has as legal basis the consent, which is required when opening the site. The treatment related to the use of technical or session cookies has as legal basis the legitimate interest of the data controller to allow the navigation of the site and the sharing of information in the development of scientific research.
