Supporting Our Research
TIGEM's success is widely recognized and has resulted in a network of international support and funding.
TIGEM's principal funding agent is the Telethon Foundation. Funds provided by Telethon cover research, staffing and facility costs. To guarantee the quality of the research conducted at TIGEM and the rest of its institutes, Telethon has created a rigorous revision process to ensure funds are properly distributed and put to the best possible use.
In addition to the critical financial support received from the Telethon Foundation, TIGEM works hard to actively locate, pursue, and exploit external funds to finance our research costs and invest in our overall mission.
These substantial efforts have paid off and external funding currently covers more than 60% of our total costs.
European Commission
The European Commission programmes, such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe, are the EU’s key funding schemes for research and innovation. These programmes facilitate collaboration and strengthen the impact of research and innovation in developing, supporting and implementing EU policies while tackling global challenges. They aim to create and disperse excellent knowledge and technologies. .
TIGEM has been involved with or coordinated over 40 EC grants, and is currently involved in five collaborative grants:
European Research Council
The European Research Council (ERC) is the most prestigious European funding organization that supports single investigator driven research. It aims to stimulate scientific excellence in Europe by encouraging competition among the best scientific researchers.
The ERC also strives to attract top researchers from all over the world, motivating them to conduct their research in Europe. These substantial ERC grants are awarded based on a rigorous peer review evaluation process. TIGEM has been awarded 13 ERC grants, and currently hosts 3 active grants:
