4 Postdoctoral Fellowships in Genomics and Experimental Medicine (GEM)

4 POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS IN GENOMICS AND EXPERIMENTAL MEDICINE (GEM) AVAILABLE AT THE SSM-SCHOOL FOR ADVANCED STUDIES OF THE UNIVERSITY OF NAPLES (Call n. GEM_022_04)

The call for applications for four postdoctoral fellowships in Genomics and Experimental Medicine at the SSM-School for Advanced Studies of the University of Naples is now available at:
http://www.ssm.unina.it/en/postdoctoral-fellowships-calls-and-procedures/

The duration is 1 year , renewable up to 3. Gross annual salary is Euro 35.000

The research programme should focus on the study of (mainly) genetic diseases (mendelian and non mendelian) and can address any of the following areas:  development of new technological platforms for the study, diagnosis, and treatment of genetic diseases and their underlying molecular mechanisms. The research programme may focus both on basic research and on translational approaches. The following programs are available:
1) Cellular Biology and Mechanisms of Disease, i.e., the study of cellular and subcellular alterations, the study of intracellular trafficking, of contact sites between organelles, of the mechanisms that regulate homeostasis and cell survival in physiological and pathological contexts.
2) Molecular Therapy, i.e., the study of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, based on the use of modified and unmodified nucleic acids, carried by various vectors, as well as the use of small molecules with pharmacological action useful for understanding and treating the symptoms and preventing the consequences of genetic diseases.
3) Genomic Medicine, i.e., the use of -omic technologies for diagnosis and therapy genetic disease and for the creation of models and predictive tools for understanding the molecular anomalies that characterize the cellular context of diseases. Projects addressing the application of synthetic biology and reverse engineering strategies for the manipulation and optimization of cellular processes, such as the production of molecules for biopharmaceutical purposes or vectors that can be used in gene therapy contexts are also welcome.
4) Molecular Oncology: the study, using all currently available technologies, of the mechanisms underlying neoplastic cell transformation, of innovative diagnostic and classification strategies and the genomic characterization of cancer cells in order to develop personalized therapeutic strategies, depending on the compromised transduction pathways.

All the activities will be carried out at the Scuola Superiore Meridionale and TIGEM – Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine.
