Abstract
As a catabolic degradation process, autophagy can act to maintain cellular homeostasis both by sustaining metabolism or by facilitating the recycling of cellular material for new anabolic processes.
Here I will discuss the recent roles of bulk and selective autophagy in controlling cell division and stemness with regard to their relevance in human diseases.
