08/11/2018 PostDoctoral Position Available

We are seeking for a Post-Doc fellow to join dr.  Pasquale Piccolo research group based at the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine in Pozzuoli, Italy. Brunetti-Pierri’s lab is part of the Molecular Therapy program and is interested in understanding disease mechanisms and developing innovative therapies for inherited metabolic disorders.

The candidate will work on an exciting project focused on liver disease related to α1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD). AATD is a frequent genetic cause of lung and liver disease. Mutant AAT (ATZ) is unable to efficiently traverse the secretory pathway due to misfolding. Accumulation of ATZ in the endoplasmic reticulum of hepatocytes has a proteotoxic effect on the liver resulting in apoptosis, fibrosis, cirrhosis, and/or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The candidate will investigate metabolic alterations generated by liver ATZ accumulation and their effect on disease progression in a mouse model of the disease. To qualify, the applicant must hold a PhD. The applicant should have hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques and handling and working with mouse models. Experience in the field of metabolism and liver disease will be highly considered. The ideal candidate should enjoy problem solving, be persistent, resourceful and self-motivated. An ability to work independently is vital. Good English oral and written skills are a must. The Post-doc fellow will become part of an interdisciplinary research team consisting of PhD students, MD-PhD, postdocs and clinical researchers. The position will be granted for one year with possibility of extension. The salary will be negotiated based on applicant past achievements.

Please send your CV, a letter of intent, a summary of previous research interests and achievements and contacts of at least two reference letters to dr. Pasquale Piccolo:
